Doterra Beginnings
The only true essential oil provider in the world is the one with farms of their own, onsite distilleries of their own, and onsite labs with the expensive equipment for real testing.
People choosing to build a residual income sharing Young Living Essential Oils will undoubtedly run into the inevitable questions about DoTerra. We have built this page with you in mind.
I'll simply present what information is available from Young Living to save you from having to sift through a sea of commentary on all the websites out there. The resources pulled together on this site are from Young Living corporate. The voice in the videos is the CEO of Young Living.
It's no secret Doterra has done some questionable things. Young Living chose to take legal action against them for stealing trade secrets, wiping Young Living company hard drives after stealing trade secrets prior to going to court. And there are several more things in the lawsuit. Some of the things brought against Doterra were dismissed. The thing to keep in mind is why those things were dismissed. They were dismissed, not because proven innocent; they were dismissed because Young Living let too much time pass before bringing action against them.

DoTerra Burn Victim/Lawsuit
DoTerra was recently in a lawsuit because they were selling lavendin bottled and labeled as lavender.
When a mother applied her DoTerra, "lavender," on her daughters burn, for relief, she was heartsick when the condition was made worse increasing the burn from a 2nd degree burn to a 3rd degree burn. She was hospitalized at the University of Utah hospital.
Samples of DoTerra's oils were tested and found to be lavendin which smells like lavender but is a cheap imitation.
The family is suing Doterra for this. I do not know the outcome of this suit, however, no matter the outcome, it is disturbing.
There is no longer therapeutic lavender grown and properly distilled in France, China or Denmark. All of these major suppliers are growing and selling cloned and hybrid lavender. Because DoTerra does not have farms, expert distillation artists, or even true experts of essential oils, they're having to settle for what's available in the world.
DoTerra has recently pulled the the word pure from their, CPTG (certified pure therapeutic grade) in describing their oils because their oils aren't testing out. CPTG isn't a real certification. It's a trademark name made up by Doterra with the word certified in it. Using the word, "Certified," is misleading customers to believe their oils have an official certification.
Also important to know, the future of essential oils in the world and why only a company growing and distilling it's own oils can supply the highest quality oils and survive in the future.

Just A Sales Company
What does it take to provide the best therapeutic oils for the world? Hopefully after spending time on this site and investigating, that question has been answered.
A doctor (Dr Stewart) took the time to call the several essential oil companies out there and asked them some very good questions.
Click on the chart to enlarge.
The question marks in the fields represent an "I don't know," answer given by the company representative.
Even the newest Young Living beginner knows, when asked about Young Living, the answers to all of these questions.
The DoTerra answers to 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 are going to be no's. And a few of the other question marks will more than likely be no's as well. That's a lot of no's. A therapeutic supplier should be able to answer yes to all of the questions.
Questions To Ask When Choosing An Essential Oil Company
#1 Does your company own any farms on which to raise herbs for oils? And if they do, are they new farms on land formerly polluted with herbicides, pesticides, and chemicals that contain residuals from the past, or are they farming land that is clean, which has never been cultivated or has been un-tilled for at least the last 50 years?
#2 Does your company have their own fully equipped testing laboratory to verify an oil’s composition?
#3 Do you have anyone on staff with a trained nose who can analyze oils by their smell?
#4 If your company purchases oils from outside suppliers, do you visit the distilleries and farms of those suppliers periodically to observe if the herbs are grown organically-without pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers?
#5 Do you know if the grower has a testing laboratory on the farm to determine when the crop is at its peak for oil harvesting?
#6 Do you know if the crops were actually harvested at their peak time and, if so, was there an inordinate delay in taking them to the still and into the cookers?
#7 Do you know if your distillery personnel understand the art and science of distilling, exactly how to pack the cookers, how to administer the steam, how to maintain minimum temperatures and pressures throughout the cooker, and how to continuously monitor the process throughout distillation to make sure the oil produced contains all of its components in the proper proportions?
#8 If your supplier makes a mistake in the distillation or harvesting processes that results in an inferior grade of oil, does that supplier sell the oil anyway or do they discard it?
#9 Do you know if the the cookers in the distilleries of their suppliers have domed lids or cone shaped lids?
#10 Do you know if your suppliers supplement the distillation process with solvents to extract additional oil from the plant matter?
#11 Do you know if your suppliers bottle their oils directly from the distillery without modifying the composition of the natural oil by adding anything or taking anything away?
#12 Do you know if your company has tested your company’s oils side by side with any other companys’ oils in the same lab to make a fair comparison? And if so, please supply the data."

Cloned/Toxic Lavender Around the World
There is no longer therapeutic lavender grown and properly distilled in France, China or Denmark. All of the major suppliers are growing and selling cloned lavender. Because DoTerra does not have farms, expert distillation artists, they're having to settle for what's available in the world.
As mentioned above, DoTerra was recently in a lawsuit because they were selling lavendin bottled and labeled as lavender.
Knowing there's nowhere left for people to go for unadulterated lavender, Young Living planted and grew over 1 million new lavender starts to expand their already expansive lavender crops. It takes a little more than 3 years with bumper crop, and for the plants to grow to maturity and to be ready for distillation of it's aromatics.
Also important to know, the future of essential oils in the world and why only a company growing and distilling it's own oils can supply the highest quality oils and survive in the future.
For those choosing to build a residual income with a network opportunity, it's important to consider, will my company be here 10, 20, 40 years from now guaranteeing your check continues to come in the mail?

Do Terra Frankincense
These pictures are from a Young Living sponsored research presentation.
The two frankincense pictures (upper right) are DoTerra frankincense samples.
The clear sample (upper left) is Young Living Boswellia Sacra frankincense, also known as sacred frankincense.
Frankincense quality, like diamonds, is visible in color. The clearer the frankincense, the higher the quality.
What's interesting is, even today, the native middle eastern suppliers can spot frankincense variety and purity simply from seeing and smelling the resin. When handed the resin of Boswellia Sacra, they immediately know it's the best variety of frankincense and the most expensive of all the frankincense varieties.
Frankincense quality matters. People who make the move to essential oils for their health may be unwitting victims of poor quality, low grade and even toxic essential oils. Oil purity is the thing that sets Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils apart from any other company.
No other company can claim the most important practices there are in this industry, namely company owned and operated farms in all different parts of the world, onsite proprietary distilleries and pure steam distillation processes, and millions in onsite mass spec, chromatography equipment manned by men and women scientists expert in critical testing.

Also included here for your study, a PDF showing the species Boswellia Frereana, mixed in with DoTerra frankincense, and brokered by DoTerra is inferior to the Boswellia Carteri and Sacra species harvested and distilled by Young Living because it's missing the powerful healing boswellic acids. This is shown to be the case by 125 different studies.
